I am sending this email to inform you that we will be restarting nodes 09 and 16 today (May 5th) at 12:00PM to disable hyperthreadding, I apologize for the short notice and our not spotting this sooner but these nodes experience less traffic than the nodes we first noticed this issue on. Downtime will be minimal and around 10 minutes as we have rented an additional KVM to do work on both nodes at the same time.

超线程是在某些Intel处理器上实现的一种并发多线程技术，该技术可以使一个处理器核被操作系统识别为两个，并同时执行两个线程。这样通常可以提高响应时间，改善系统性能。

所有的红帽企业版Linux发行版都支持超线程技术。要使用超线程技术，要求处理器必须支持该技术，并在系统BIOS或固件中启用该技术，而且必须使用SMP内核，即使系统只有一个物理CPU也不例外。 SMP内核可通过uname -a的输出结果查看，在显示的时间之前如果包含大写的“SMP”字符串则表示使用了SMP内核。

如果处理器、BIOS以及内核都支持超线程，那么将自动启用超线程。一些硬件厂商默认情况下会在BIOS或者固件中禁用超线程。尽管这样做会避免出现BIOS和旧版本的操作系统之间关于ACPI的兼容性问题，但有时候这样做是因为系统有一些负载方面的考虑，而使用超线程会降低它的性能。通常安装红帽企业版Linux 发行版的最新的update会避开这样的兼容性问题，当然有时也需要更新BIOS。

如果在BIOS里已经启用了超线程，可以通过添加启动时的内核参数noht来禁用该功能，参考下面的grub.conf 例子：

Starting at 5:00PM GMT-7 on Friday March 6th we will be bringing Addons down for upgrades, as well as reboot 20 and 23 for kernel updates as well as add an additional drive to node20 to increase available space.

Total Downtime will be around 20 minutes with downtime for both nodes lasting less than 10 minutes.

这次该20和23节点...
